Our Warranty, Parts Policy, and What Happens After Your Repair

Every part C&S Auto Repair installs comes with a 12-month parts and labor guarantee, starting on the date of installation. We keep your old parts until you pick up your vehicle, so you can see exactly what came off. We also install parts you bring in, though those parts fall outside our warranty.

A repair isn’t finished the moment you drive away. You want to know the work will hold up, what you’re covered for, and who to call if something feels off. This guide covers all 3 pieces: the guarantee on our work, how we handle parts, and what to expect at and after pickup.

What does the C&S Auto Repair warranty cover?

auto mechanic giving thumbs up in Idaho Falls

Our guarantee covers both the part and the labor for 12 months from the date we install it. If a part we installed fails in that window, you don’t pay for the replacement part or for the time it takes to put it in.

The labor coverage matters more than many drivers realize. Plenty of part warranties replace only the part itself. The Federal Trade Commission notes that manufacturers of remanufactured parts often warranty the part but not the labor to install it. On a job where reaching the part takes hours, that difference shows up on your bill.

A few details worth knowing:

  • Coverage starts on the installation date, not the day you called or dropped off your vehicle.
  • The guarantee applies to parts we supply and install.
  • Your repair order records the work and the date, so it doubles as your proof of coverage.

Do some parts and repairs carry longer coverage?

Yes. 12 months is the minimum on the parts we supply. Some parts come with a longer manufacturer warranty on the part alone, and you get the benefit of that longer coverage. Our labor guarantee on those jobs runs the standard 12 months.

Instrument cluster rebuilds offer another example. We perform full cluster rebuilds on some GM models, and those rebuilds carry a lifetime warranty. Cosmetic add-ons, such as LED bulbs or aftermarket face plates, fall outside that coverage because we can’t guarantee them. Learn more on our GM Cluster Service page.

How do repair warranties compare from shop to shop?

They vary more than most people expect. The Federal Trade Commission puts it plainly in its consumer guide to auto repair:

“There is no ‘standard warranty’ on repairs.” Federal Trade Commission, Auto Repair Basics

The FTC recommends comparing warranty policies when you choose a shop and getting the terms in writing. It also points out that warranties can come with limits on time, mileage, deductibles, and where the work must be done. Before you approve a repair anywhere, ask these 4 questions:

  1. How long does coverage last, and from what date?
  2. Does it cover labor, or only the part?
  3. Do some parts carry longer coverage than others?
  4. Does coverage apply to parts I bring in?

At C&S Auto Repair, the answers are 12 months from installation, parts and labor, yes for some parts, and no for customer-supplied parts.

Where do the parts in your repair come from?

New replacement parts from suppliers stocked at C&S Auto Repair

We buy parts through established suppliers, including WorldPac, CarQuest, O’Reilly, BG, and NAPA. Working with suppliers we know gives us a clear path back to the source if a part ever fails. That path is what lets us stand behind both the part and the labor.

Our technicians bring the same care to choosing parts that they bring to diagnosis. The team includes ASE Master Technicians and holds GM and Ford certifications. We service all makes and specialize in 2002 and newer domestic and Asian vehicles. We don’t service European models.

Can you see the old parts we replaced?

Yes. We usually hold on to replaced parts until you pick up your vehicle. Just tell us when you arrive, and we’ll show you what came off and why it needed replacing.

A worn brake pad or a cracked hose makes a repair concrete in a way an invoice can’t. The FTC encourages drivers to ask for their replaced parts and notes that some state laws require shops to provide them. We dispose of old parts after pickup, so ask before you leave.

Can you bring your own parts?

Yes, we can install parts you bring in. The difference comes down to coverage. We can’t warranty customer-supplied parts, so if one fails, you handle the warranty claim with the seller and pay the labor to replace it again.

The reason is simple. When we source a part, we know where it came from and can go back to that supplier. With a part bought elsewhere, we don’t have that history or that relationship.

Already have a part on hand? Mention it when you call. We’ll walk through the trade-off with you before any work starts, so you can decide what fits your budget.

What should you do when you pick up your vehicle?

Pickup is the best time to ask questions and leave with everything you need. Before you head out:

  • Review your repair order. The FTC advises that it should list each repair, the parts supplied and their cost, labor charges, and your odometer reading.
  • Ask to see your old parts if you’d like to.
  • Ask which parts, if any, carry coverage beyond 12 months.
  • Keep your paperwork. The installation date starts your coverage clock.

What happens if something doesn’t feel right after a repair?

Call us at (208) 524-2770. Tell us what you’re noticing, when it started, and when we did the repair. If a part we installed fails within 12 months of installation, the guarantee covers the replacement part and the labor.

Not every new symptom traces back to the last repair. Vehicles can develop unrelated problems, too. Either way, we find the cause, explain it, and call you before any new work begins. As one customer wrote in a review, “They do the work right and stand behind it.”
